Peräkärry ja kyytiläiset

Autottoman päivän yleisötapahtuman yhteydessä järjestetään pyöräkärryjen kokoontumisajo. Paikalle ovat tervetulleita kaiken näköiset polkupyörän peräkärryt käyttötarkoitukseen katsomatta, sekä tietysti kaikki peräkärryistä kiinnostuneet.

Autoton päivä lauantaina 22.9. päättää liikkujan viikon (16.-22.9.). Jyväskylän kaupungin autottoman päivän yleisötapahtuma järjestetään Vapaudenkadulla paikallisliikennekeskuksella klo 13-17.

Pyöräkärryilijät kokoontuvat Asemakadun liikenteeltä suljetulle osuudelle paikallisliikennekeskuksen viereen. Koeajomahdollisuuksista voit kysyä paikan päällä. Kukaan ei ole kärryjä viideltä häätämässä, joten vähän myöhemminkin kannattaa tulla katsomaan josko niitä on vielä paikalla.

Päivitys 22.9.2008:

YLE Radio Keski-Suomi teki jutun peräkärryistä. Haastateltavana allekirjoittaneen lisäksi pyöränikkari Sakari Holma.

Kyselyyn vastanneista viidennes ei haluaisi lainkaan äänestää, jos äänen joutuisi näpyttelemään koneelle. Tästä tuloksesta voi kyllä tehdä vallan toisen johtopäätöksen kansan syvien rivien luottamuksesta sähköiseen äänestykseen, kuin mihin mainitut lehdet olivat päätyneet.

Entä pitäisikö siitä vetää jotain johtopäätöksiä, että äänestyksen tietokoneistamisen äänekkäimmät vastustajat ovat nuoria nörttejä ja tietokone-intoilijoita? Juuri heitä, joita tämän uudistuksen piti ministeriön mukaan uurnille yllyttää.

Ja aiemmin kirjoittamani pätee hyvin edelleen…

The "value" attribute for "LI" element is deprecated in XHTML 1.0, but it only means it's going to go away at some point in the future. Value of the attribute is defined as number token, which "must contain at least one digit ([0-9])". This is somewhat vague. Still one could deduce that Redmond has yet to reach the level of 600 AD Indian mathematicians who knew that zero was a number. (Yes, Babylonians had the concept as early as 300 BC, but zero was a mere placeholder for them, not a value.)

Looks like others have hit zero value ul bug too. To my knowledge this bug affects at least IE 5 and 6 on Windows. I'd be glad to know if this affects newer IE versions.

Still I had the zero-based numbered list to render. First I tried to work around this using counters and generated content to simulate numbered list. That was a dead end. Apparently IE does not support counters before version 8. Then I went to hard code the list like this

 <li>0. Zeroth item</li>
 <li>1. First item</li>
</ol>

Only to learn that IE still displays item numbers like nothing had happened and list items would still be display: list-item. That said. I'm not aware of any viable (I want to retain semantic tagging, li for list item) workarounds. Any suggestions?

I went to browse my phone's log and found 10 text messages sent during a time period when I had just arrived at Jyväskylä Travel Centre. I had had a day on the road, working while traveling by buss and train. My phone (Nokia E65, sw version "1.0633.18.01 11-01-07 RM-208 Nokia E65") had been in casing, slider closed and keys locked, but bluetooth turned on and in discoverable mode (Shame on me!) all day long. I had touched my phone only once. That was when I accepted my laptop to use my phone via bluetoothe and open an Internet connection. Laptop is paired with the phone, but not trusted by the phone (that's why I had to press "OK" to open connection).

Another colleague asked if he owed me something. He did not. Apparently he was one of the recipients of these mystery messages. His question woke me up. Could somebody be pulling a nice scheme using a bluetooth (or some other) vulnerability? If this is the case, the account number most probably is not owned by the felon himself.

I have contacted police, reported this to Ficora, Nokia, OP and F-Secure and will file a criminal complaint.

Kuppini onnistui kippaamaan nurin otakantaa.fi:n kommenttilomake. Onneksi nykyiset HTML-oppaat osaavat yleensä ohjeistaa tervejärkiseen reset-napin käyttöön:

[...] Users don't usually need to reset their forms, and they are more likely to accidentally hit the reset button than they are to actually want to wipe out their work. Unless you have a specific reason to expect that users will need a reset button it's probably best to leave it out.

Arvatkaas kahdesti miten ensimmäiselle otakantaa.fi-kommentilleni kävi … juuri niin.

And, lo and behold, after a few twists (which I probably would have avoided if my box hadn't been "tuned") it came out fine except that Firefox did not display flash animations. They were there (I could hear the sound) but invisible. Finally yesterday I decided to get my flash back. :-)

It did not take very long to narrow it down to adblock's "Obj-Tabs" option. Turning it off fixed flash animations. I filed a bug and informed adblock developers as I could not find any indication of the bug on adblock website. Just a minute ago I found out that mozillaZine forums know about the problem and the "disable obj-tabs" solution.
